Position Overview

The General Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in kitchen areas, equipment, plateware, and utensils. This role supports food preparation tasks and promotes workplace culture consistent with the organization's core purpose, vision, mission, and values.

Key Duties

  • Scrape and pre-rinse food residues from dirty dishes before placing them into dishwashing machines (50%).
  • Wash pots, pans, and trays manually or using machines (15%).
  • Perform assigned food preparation tasks (10%).
  • Dispose of trash and garbage by transferring to dumpster area (10%).
  • Clean work tables, walls, refrigeration units, cooking equipment, and floors (5%).
  • Sanitize garbage cans and trash receptacles (5%).
  • Assemble, maintain, and dismantle dishwashing machines as required (5%).
  • Transfer cases weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times daily (up to 20 times).
  • Store plates, utensils, pans, and cases on shelves of varying heights.
  • Work predominantly indoors (90%) and occasionally outdoors (10%).
  • Adapt to hot and humid working conditions and respond appropriately to emergency situations to ensure safety.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Language Skills: Ability to comprehend and interpret contracts, operational and maintenance instructions, procedures, and to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Mathematical Skills: Capability to solve practical problems, handle diverse real-world scenarios and interpret instructions presented in various forms including written, oral, diagrams, and schedules.

Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, walking, hand use for handling objects, and reaching. Exposure to wet floors, temperature variations, and loud noises is common. The role requires bending, stooping, lifting racks up to 40 pounds regularly, standing for extended periods, and moving between work areas. Visual acuity including close vision and focus adjustment is necessary.

Psychological Demands: Ability to work collaboratively in teams, adapt to fast-paced environments, embrace change, and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
