Job description

About The Opportunity

  • Tourism New Zealand is a Crown entity dedicated to promoting the country as a tourist destination, focusing on long-term benefits for Aotearoa.
  • As a key member of the Executive Team reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will oversee a broad Corporate Services portfolio encompassing strategy and performance, people management, finance, technology and data, enterprise risk, and corporate communications.
  • You will lead six direct reports along with a multidisciplinary team supporting global operations.
  • This senior leadership role involves advising on governance and assurance while improving organisational performance, efficiency, collaboration, and driving transformational initiatives such as integrating AI and digital tools.
  • Close collaboration with the Executive Team, Board, Audit and Risk Committee, government agencies, and ministerial stakeholders is essential.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive senior leadership experience, ideally over 10 years, with the capability to manage multiple corporate functions and effectively contribute at Executive and Board levels.
  • Strong strategic and commercial acumen, including expertise in organisational strategy, planning, performance management, and risk control.
  • A proven track record in complex, multi-stakeholder settings with adeptness in governance, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management.
  • A leadership style centred on people; setting clear direction, cultivating leadership capability, empowering innovative thinking, enhancing performance, and fostering a resilient culture adept at managing change.
  • Decisiveness, energetic pace, robust contribution to discussions, and an ability to inspire cross-organisational collaboration with focus on organisational purpose.
  • A forward-thinking approach to technology, AI adoption, new working methods, and a strong commitment to Te Ao Māori principles.

What This Role Offers

  • Senior leadership spanning strategy and performance with a strong emphasis on people, values, and leadership of other leaders rather than specialist functions.
  • A rare opportunity to exercise broad enterprise leadership within a prominent New Zealand organisation.
  • Engagement in elevating organisational capability and performance during significant change including AI and digital transformation.
  • Work alongside a seasoned Executive Team and experienced functional leaders in an international organisation with a prestigious brand.
  • A role imbued with meaningful purpose, positively impacting New Zealand, its citizens, and global visitors.
  • Wellington is preferred as the work location; Auckland may be considered for the ideal candidate. Domestic travel will be a component of the role.
  • Join a commercially-driven, innovative Crown entity focused on demonstrating return on investment, presenting a highly appealing opportunity.

Additional Information

  • Applicants must be New Zealand citizens, residents, or hold valid work visas.
  • References will be requested later, so please do not include them with applications.
  • Applications should be submitted directly through the official job advert process.
