About the Role
Join the Walter Peak team as a dedicated Gardener and contribute to the upkeep and beauty of picturesque lakeside gardens. This permanent, full-time position invites you to help maintain diverse plantings at the Historic Homestead gardens, fresh produce garden, native nursery, and substantial native vegetation at Walter Peak in Otago, New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement annual planting strategies to cultivate attractive seasonal gardens.
- Prepare seed beds and nurture plant germination and growth.
- Plant and propagate a variety of trees, shrubs, hedges, bulbs, and flowering plants.
- Keep lawns healthy through weeding, trimming, fertilizing, watering, and mowing operations.
- Install and manage irrigation systems as required.
- Perform pruning and tree care, including erecting plant support structures.
- Design and maintain both softscape and hardscape garden features.
- Oversee pest and disease control to ensure garden vitality.
Candidate Profile
- Possesses solid knowledge of plant species, garden bed preparation, maintenance, and pruning techniques.
- Experienced or knowledgeable in horticultural practices.
- Displays a strong work ethic with a proactive, can-do mindset.
- Effective communicator and team player, thrives in a small, close-knit team environment.
