Job description
About the Role
Join RealNZ as a BI/Data Engineer and play a critical role in transforming data into actionable stories that influence the future of the organization. By managing the entire data lifecycle from raw sources to trusted, business-ready insights, you will underpin RealNZ's Data Platform and empower teams for self-service analytics and decision-making.
This position requires balancing deep technical expertise in data pipelines and modelling with the ability to clearly convey complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders. You will design and develop data pipelines, dimensional models, and the semantic layer that supports reporting, analytics, and nascent AI initiatives, while enforcing best practices and consistent methodologies across the platform.
Reporting to the Head of Business Intelligence, you will collaborate closely with BI Analysts and domain experts throughout the business to translate raw data into reliable and comprehensible models.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement end-to-end data pipelines and data models.
- Build and maintain a semantic layer translating data models into accessible business metrics.
- Support Power BI and analytics development efforts.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership in shaping the organization's Data and AI strategy from research through to deployment.
- Collaborate with BI Analysts and subject matter experts to ensure data solutions meet business needs and quality standards.
Candidate Profile and Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience as a data engineer or BI developer with strong capabilities in dimensional modeling and data warehousing.
- Proficiency in advanced SQL, including pipeline and query optimization.
- Experience creating and managing semantic layers that convert models into user-friendly business measures.
- Understanding of data governance frameworks and data quality protocols.
- Effective communication skills to educate and engage non-technical stakeholders.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, Coalesce, Power BI, or Python/R for predictive analytics is advantageous. Above all, a growth mindset and enthusiasm for exemplary data practices are highly valued.
