About Green by Nature

Green by Nature has been a dedicated leader in greenspace maintenance since 1992, employing over 2000 team members across New Zealand and Australia. The company partners with City and District Councils and numerous private clients, focusing on preserving the beauty of the environments they maintain.

Role Overview

Based in Matamata, Waikato, this role involves playing a vital part in caring for the picturesque villages served by Green by Nature. The primary duties include planting, weeding, pruning, leaf blowing, spraying, weed eating, general vegetation management, as well as operating walk-behind mowers and small equipment like hedge trimmers. Safety, respect for colleagues and village residents, and adherence to high-quality standards in all tasks are crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain attractive gardens aligned with client expectations, including sourcing plants and materials, following garden layouts, and applying best practices for planting.
  • Manage daily operations at assigned sites within contracted works, whether for routine maintenance or renovation projects.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Operations Manager, Team Manager, and clients, reporting any garden or planting issues promptly.
  • Prioritize safety, compliance, and quality throughout all gardening functions.

Working Conditions and Schedule

The position typically requires working Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, though hours may vary. The role entails physically active outdoor work in varying weather. It is situated within an occupied retirement village, so candidates must be respectful, approachable, and comfortable interacting with elderly residents. Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow a structured program are essential.

Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on experience in gardening and horticulture is preferred.
  • Possession of a full, clean New Zealand driver's license, including manual driving capability, is mandatory.
  • Qualifications such as Level 3 or 4 National Certificate in Horticulture and GrowSafe certification are advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of plant species and their care requirements.
  • Ability to read and accurately implement detailed gardening plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for professional engagement with clients and the community.
  • A motivated, results-oriented mindset committed to delivering high-quality outcomes.

Benefits

  • Guaranteed work hours with opportunities to increase hours based on operational needs.
  • Performance-based salary reviewed annually.
  • Provision of a work phone with permission for personal use.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with industry professionals and grow within the horticulture sector.
