Position Overview
The store associate role involves a variety of duties such as stocking shelves, merchandising products, operating as a cashier, and maintaining store cleanliness. Working collaboratively with the team, the associate aims to enrich the customer shopping experience through exceptional service.
Work Schedule and Compensation
This full-time position averages 30 or more hours per week with a starting hourly wage of $20.00. Wage increases are scheduled annually, with $20.50 in the second year, $21.00 in years three and four, and $22.00 in the fifth year.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Exemplify all customer service principles and escalate issues to management as needed.
- Report product losses due to damage or expiration to store management.
- Utilize the point-of-sale system accurately to process purchases and notify management of any scanning discrepancies.
- Adhere strictly to cash handling policies and procedures.
- Open additional checkout lanes as needed to maintain smooth customer flow.
- Stock shelves and arrange displays neatly following merchandising planograms to drive sales.
- Fulfill curbside pickup orders by selecting items precisely, verifying order accuracy, and timely vehicle delivery from the staging area.
- Maintain cleanliness and merchandising standards consistently across store zones.
- Support management in meeting operational efficiency and loss prevention goals.
- Follow all company policies, including those related to safety and equipment maintenance.
- Contribute to a safe work environment by identifying and fixing hazards and ensuring equipment functions properly.
- Comply with inventory management and appropriate product handling procedures.
- Perform cleaning tasks to meet company standards.
Physical Requirements
- Tasks require pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, reaching, bending, and moving around the store.
- Ability to lift, carry, and place products weighing up to 45 pounds at various heights, including overhead.
- Operate equipment such as cash registers, electric/manual hand jacks, floor scrubbers, and cardboard balers.
- Work under varying temperature conditions including freezer and cooler areas.
- Use glass and multi-purpose cleaning products safely.
Qualifications and Skills
- Deliver prompt and friendly customer service consistently.
- Proficient operation of store equipment including registers, floor scrubbers, balers, pallet jacks, handheld devices, and computers.
- Understanding and application of operating policies and procedures.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to follow instructions attentively with strong attention to detail.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Organize, prioritize, and complete assigned duties efficiently within deadlines.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Meet availability requirements as specified by the employer.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior retail experience is preferred but not mandatory.
