Housekeeping/Custodial Worker

Job Overview

This role involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of state facilities such as institutions, public buildings, and state lodges. Duties include cleaning floors, walls, furniture, and equipment, managing trash disposal, performing sanitary inspections, and ensuring safety standards are upheld.

Key Responsibilities

• Sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, washing, vacuuming, waxing, and polishing floors, walls, furniture, windows, and equipment.
• Cleaning and sanitizing laboratories, restrooms, bedrooms, and restocking supplies like paper towels and soap.
• Collecting and disposing of garbage and moving equipment or furniture as needed.
• Performing sanitary inspections to maintain infection control.
• Handling disposal of medically contaminated sharps and dressings.
• Ordering, distributing, and maintaining inventory of custodial supplies.
• Reporting safety violations and participating in emergency procedures.
• Training and educating junior custodial staff.
• Planning, assigning, and supervising housekeeping department functions including setting housekeeping standards and preparing budget requests.
• Inspecting quarters to ensure housekeeping standards are met and maintaining records of furnishings distribution.
• Preparing necessary reports and maintaining departmental records.

Levels and Experience

Level I is entry-level, focusing on routine cleaning tasks with training for advanced duties such as hazardous waste disposal. Level II involves full performance of varied custodial tasks including handling restricted or hazardous materials. Level II requires at least six months of related custodial experience or equivalent.

Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Familiarity with cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
• Understanding proper disposal of hazardous waste and medical sharps.
• Knowledge of chemical safety.
• Skill operating custodial equipment.

Additional Details

• Role located at Oklahoma School for the Blind in Muskogee, OK.
• Tasks include cleaning classrooms, restrooms, offices, medical clinics, and wax/buff floors.
• Job-related travel may be required.
• Trial period applies.

Compensation

Monthly salary ranges from $2,411.94 to $2,651.91 depending on level, translating annually to $28,943.30 to $31,822.92.
