Job Overview

The Freight Clerk will coordinate shipment handling procedures, ensuring compliance with company standards and customer requirements. The role involves direct interaction with customers for enquiries and complaint resolution, as well as communication with carriers, suppliers, and other operational stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with customers on shipment handling per SOPs and customer demands.
  • Address customer inquiries and complaints concerning shipments.
  • Report shipment processing status and complex operational issues to the Operations Lead.
  • Work with airline, shipping lines, suppliers, and contractors to facilitate smooth shipment processing and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Lead to resolve issues promptly and maintain operational flow.
  • Complete billing templates to submit to the Finance department located in the DR.
  • Coordinate with customers regarding collection of services and duties on delivery or before.
  • Scan invoices and record them in the Operations Log system.
  • Prepare payment requests for vendors and forward to Finance.
  • Engage with other departments to ensure seamless shipment handling, documentation, customs clearance, and resolution of customer issues.
  • Process inbound shipments in line with SOPs and client specifications.
  • Organize and archive shipping documents according to procedural standards.
  • Track shipment progress and update company systems such as Ops Log and Cargo Wise per business guidelines.
  • Handle cargo preclaims and monitor empty container returns following demurrage procedures.
  • Provide value-added insights to influence organizational decisions and optimize business processes.
  • Create job orders and perform data entry tasks in Ops Log and Cargo Wise systems.
  • Manage all air and ocean export operations in compliance with standard procedures.
  • Identify and report any non-conformities to foster continuous improvement in assigned areas.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of pertinent experience, ideally within freight forwarding and logistics sectors.
  • Possession of a valid Brokers license.
  • Fundamental understanding of AFR (Air Freight) and OFR (Ocean Freight) operations including handling, documentation, and customs clearance.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
