Foreperson - Chipseal

Job Overview

Higgins in Hamilton seeks a skilled Foreperson to lead our Sealing team. This role involves managing daily chipseal surfacing tasks, including the supervision of crews, equipment, materials, and traffic controls to ensure safe, organized, and timely completion of works. Your expertise in surfacing will be crucial in maintaining quality and adapting to dynamic site conditions while directing your team clearly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Schedule, sequence, and oversee chipseal surfacing operations.
• Manage binder spraying, chip distribution, rolling processes, and traffic management activities.
• Coordinate manpower, plant resources, subcontractors, suppliers, and material logistics.
• Evaluate weather and surface states, adjusting procedures accordingly to maintain standards.
• Perform quality assurance inspections, complete surfacing logs and site reports.
• Lead daily pre-start briefings and toolbox meetings; mentor crew members and enforce safety protocols.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum five years’ experience in road surfacing with proven leadership of on-site crews.
• Comprehensive knowledge of chipseal processes including binder application, chip spreading, and compaction.
• Valid Class 1 driver's license with WTR endorsements or eligibility to acquire them.
• Qualification as a Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) or relevant experience collaborating with traffic management teams.
• Benefit from additional training in bitumen, chipseal, or related surfacing disciplines.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and flexibility to adjust to shifting site priorities.
