About the Department

The Property and Campus Development team supports the University of Otago's academic mission by maintaining excellent facilities and environments for staff, students, and visitors. Responsible for buildings and over 22,000 hectares of land, this division underpins the university's teaching, research, and learning activities involving 3,500 staff and more than 20,000 students.

Role Overview

The Fleet and Parking Manager is crucial in managing the university's entire vehicle fleet, ranging from electric carts to vans and specialized equipment. This position ensures vehicles are maintained safely, reliably, and available for use. Responsibilities include daily fleet management such as scheduling maintenance, coordinating repairs, and performing vehicle inspections to comply with safety standards.

The Manager spearheads strategic fleet asset procurement and replacement, aiming for cost efficiency while advancing the university’s sustainability goals through low-emission and electric vehicle adoption. Partnering with the Parking Coordinator, the role optimizes parking spaces, ensures regulatory compliance, and meets campus transportation needs. Additional duties encompass risk assessments, audits, health and safety oversight, and providing occasional first aid or emergency assistance.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should hold a tertiary qualification in Logistics, Business Administration, Facilities Management, fleet management certification, or equivalent professional experience. Proven expertise in fleet management or transport logistics, including vehicle maintenance, procurement, and compliance, is essential.

Organizational and time management skills are critical, along with budgeting and cost control proficiency. The candidate must have all necessary licenses to operate fleet vehicles confidently. Building collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and working in culturally safe, respectful ways that acknowledge Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Pasifika values are necessary attributes.

Key Competencies

• Understanding of electric vehicle technology and sustainable transportation infrastructure
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and fleet or asset management software for monitoring and reporting
• Ability to analyze data relating to vehicle usage, maintenance, and costs
• Experience with vehicle telematics, GPS tracking, fuel-efficiency tools, and sustainability programs preferred
• Familiarity with fleet management software and parking enforcement highly regarded
• Flexibility to work beyond regular hours as needed

Additional Information

This is a permanent full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week, located in Dunedin (Ōtepoti). The annual salary range is NZD 75,631 to 80,503, with a top of range at NZD 88,750.
