Financial Director

Overview

A growing project-driven organization based in Southwestern Ontario is seeking a hands-on Financial Director to join its senior leadership team. This key leadership position involves managing the finance department, spearheading process improvements, boosting ERP system usage, and delivering strategic financial insights to support business operations.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the finance and accounting team, promoting a culture focused on accountability and continuous enhancement.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and yearly close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reports.
• Maintain and verify the integrity of the general ledger through reconciliations and analytical reviews while upholding strong financial controls.
• Supervise activities related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory accounting.
• Coordinate external audit engagements and serve as the main contact for auditors.
• Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, converting operational goals into sound financial models.
• Interpret financial performance data, including variance analysis, trends, and key drivers to provide actionable recommendations.
• Create KPI dashboards and management reporting tools to increase transparency of operational and financial results.
• Advise senior management on strategies to enhance profitability, decision-making, and optimize working capital.
• Oversee cash flow and working capital management to ensure business growth and financial health.
• Lead initiatives to improve finance and operational processes for greater scalability and efficiency.
• Enhance ERP systems including automation and workflows, improving accuracy and productivity.
• Collaborate with operational teams to improve project costing, revenue recognition, and transaction processing.
• Establish and implement SOPs, internal controls, and accountability procedures to fortify finance operations.
• Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in reporting and operational processes.
• Maintain relationships with financial institutions to ensure compliance with lending terms and reporting requirements.
• Support risk management, financial governance, and continuous improvements to internal control frameworks.

Required Qualifications

• CPA certification is mandatory.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent field.
• A minimum of seven years progressive finance and accounting experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Demonstrated proficiency in optimizing ERP systems; expertise with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a significant advantage.
• Advanced skills in Excel and financial analysis.
• Prior experience in project-based sectors such as construction, engineering, manufacturing, or service industries is highly valued.
• Track record of leading process improvement projects and effective collaboration across departments.
