Team Overview
The Failure Analysis (FA) Team at ADI Limerick functions within the Quality and Global Failure Analysis group, dedicated to providing analysis services and systems supporting new product and technology development. They define failure analysis processes to detect mechanisms causing failures, thereby uncovering root causes for customer issues. As part of the Failure Analysis Centre of Excellence, they lead characterization and failure analysis for cutting-edge development projects.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Assist with the FA materials Lab Service request system operations
- Maintain and calibrate failure analysis laboratory equipment (including Fault localisation, SEM/FIB, sample preparation and inspection tools) to ensure operational uptime and efficiency, collaborating with vendors and support teams
- Perform 2D and 3D X-Ray analyses
- Conduct cross-sectioning of silicon, ICs, and packages by mechanical polishing
- Operate chemical wet-bench IC decapsulation and laser decapsulation systems
- Complete SEM microscopy and elemental (EDX) analyses
- Execute cross-sectioning via Dual Beam and Plasma FIB systems
- Carry out FIB circuit edits on developmental silicon
- Perform STEM/TEM and EDX microscopy analyses
- Conduct Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) analyses
- Compile detailed reports of analysis tasks and coordinate equipment calibration activities
- Participate in developing new methodologies for analyzing and inspecting novel devices and materials
- Collaborate with global FA materials teams on key projects
- Provide mentorship and consult other lab and equipment users on IC and materials analysis and characterization
- Engage in Continuous Improvement, Lean manufacturing, 6S, operational excellence, and problem-solving initiatives
Qualifications & Skills
- BSc or BEng degree (NFQ level 7/8) in Electronic Engineering, Physics/Applied Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field; relevant industry experience is advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a practical, hands-on approach; prior semiconductor or materials analysis experience is a plus
- Excellent organizational and communication skills capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and eagerness to acquire new skills in a development-focused environment
- High motivation and energy to work both independently and collaboratively in teams
- Full training provided upon hiring as required
