Fabrication Estimation Engineer

About the Role

Qatar Fabrication Company (QFAB) seeks a Fabrication Estimation Engineer to join their team located in Ras Laffan, Al Khor, and Al Thakhira, Qatar. Preference will be given to Qatari nationals. The selected candidate will report to the Operations Engineering Manager and be responsible for preparing cost estimates for bidding on valuable multimillion-dollar Oil and Gas projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze customer and bid tender packages to fully comprehend scope of work, technical specifications, and schedules, raising clarifications as needed.
• Review contract pricing formats and clarify unit rates and lump sum breakdowns.
• Understand bid strategies, build sequences, and execution methods based on inputs from the operations engineer and issue technical execution plans.
• Coordinate with departments including Operations, Production, Shop Engineering, Yard Superintendents, Planning, Welding Engineering, QA/QC, Construction Support, and Procurement to gather necessary information.
• Identify new equipment needs and collaborate with Procurement to secure cost details.
• Prepare Requests for Quotations (RFQs) for outsourced components and manage subcontractor selection through bid evaluation.
• Conduct quantity take-offs and determine necessary workforce, rental equipment, and material costs.
• Develop detailed estimates aligned with the scope using standard rates, historical data, or first-principle calculations.
• Compile and finalize estimates through management review and approval, maintaining comprehensive records of all estimates and supporting documentation.
• Maintain historical performance data and benchmarks for repeated work, comparing actuals to estimates and recommending updates to benchmarks.
• Lead and contribute to process improvements and innovations as suggested by management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
• Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in offshore construction, specifically with structures like jackets, topsides, and bridges, including understanding of components, construction methods, and processes.

Skills Required

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF applications.
• Capacity to meet tight deadlines and manage changes, whether internal or external.
