Estimator - Electrical Power Distribution

About the Role

Our Distribution division seeks a skilled Estimator experienced in Electrical Power Distribution Construction. This position can be based in Hanover, Vaughan (GTA), Timmins, or other Ontario locations. Reporting to the Lead Estimator, you will develop thorough cost estimates, evaluate materials, labor and equipment needs, analyze subcontractor and supplier bids, and prepare competitive tender proposals ensuring profitable contract execution. Winning contracts requires balancing price with service quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed project estimates including site visits, quantity take-offs, pricing, and submitting estimates for cost engineering review
• Consolidate estimates from multiple contributors to finalize company-wide submissions with engineering support
• Validate outsourced estimates in collaboration with engineering teams
• Incorporate historical cost data from previous contracts and projects into internal cost models
• Format estimates according to Owners Reporting standards
• Review design basis, engineering documents, and basis of estimate to ensure accuracy
• Craft written bid submissions articulating scope, assumptions, and execution plans
• Contribute estimating insights on complex conceptual projects
• Advise non-estimating staff on related estimation matters
• Participate in project planning meetings providing estimating input
• Engage with management, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers maintaining clear communication
• Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for accurate pricing data
• Assist with development of execution plans, sequencing, logistics, and preliminary project schedules

Required Qualifications

• Journeyman Electrician, Powerline Technician, post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Experience in utility construction with demonstrated estimation involvement
• Proficiency in estimating software and sound knowledge of techniques including indirect and conceptual methods
• Familiarity with construction costs, budgeting, and project scheduling
• Ability to interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Technical understanding of utility and powerline construction
• Experience using InEight Estimating Software
• Track record estimating projects valued $1M to $50M
• At least 3 years of industry-specific estimating experience
• Exposure to EPC estimating and preparing detailed bid deliverables

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time role offers an annual base salary from $90,000 to $130,000 based on experience and qualifications. The benefit plan includes a comprehensive package with a 5% RRSP matching program to support your health and wellbeing.
