The company emphasizes practical, collaborative, and solutions-oriented work, partnering closely with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to deliver projects emphasizing quality, schedule, and commercial goals.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to lead the estimating and tendering process for commercial construction projects. Reporting to the Directors and collaborating with the project delivery team, you will prepare precise and competitive tenders, identify risks and opportunities, and aid decision-making for suitable projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Develop detailed trade scopes, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier requests for quotes (RFQs) and pricing submissions.
  • Analyze and compare subcontractor quotations.
  • Compile tender submissions including clarifications and qualifications.
  • Identify construction risks, opportunities, and potential cost-saving measures.
  • Create preliminary construction budgets and cost plans.
  • Coordinate with Project and Site Managers to assess methodology, scheduling, and programme needs.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients.
  • Review past project costs to refine estimating accuracy.
  • Support value management efforts and explore alternative construction approaches.
  • Assist with handovers of awarded tenders to project delivery teams.
  • Continuously enhance estimating systems, subcontractor databases, and cost information.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven estimating experience in the Australian commercial construction sector.
  • Background pricing new construction, refurbishments, or fitout projects.
  • Deep understanding of construction methodologies, materials, trade specialties, and subcontractor procurement.
  • Strong skills interpreting architectural, structural, and services documentation.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical capabilities with high attention to detail.
  • Confidence in direct engagement with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with estimating and quantity take-off software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tenders with competing deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or comparable discipline, or substantial practical industry experience.
  • Good knowledge of Australian construction norms, regulations, and Melbourne subcontractor market.

Why Work with NOTION?
