About the Role
A prominent contracting firm based in Longford seeks a proficient Estimator to lead their pricing and tender processes. The chosen candidate will be responsible for creating precise, competitive, and thoroughly documented estimates for customized joinery and fit-out projects. This position plays a crucial role in winning profitable contracts and supports the seamless transition from tendering to project delivery.
Primary Duties
- Analyze tender documentation, architectural drawings, and specifications to generate detailed material and labor quantity take-offs.
- Calculate pricing for bespoke joinery and fit-out packages, including manufacturing, finishing, ironmongery, delivery, and installation costs.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating to achieve optimal value.
- Compile and submit tenders, bills of quantities, and cost breakdowns within specified deadlines.
- Participate in pre-tender meetings, site inspections, and post-tender clarifications with clients and main contractors.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and alternative solutions to enhance competitiveness.
- Coordinate the handover of secured projects to project coordinators and workshop teams, detailing scope, allowances, and key exclusions.
- Provide assistance with pricing change orders and additional work on ongoing projects.
- Maintain and improve the company's pricing database, supplier rates, and estimating documentation.
- Monitor tender outcomes and report win rates and market pricing insights to management.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least three years of estimating experience in joinery, fit-out, or construction; strong preference for joinery/fit-out background.
- Excellent competency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings and specifications.
- Comprehensive understanding of joinery materials, manufacturing techniques, and installation methods.
- Experience with estimating or take-off software, such as Project Pak, is advantageous.
- Strong commercial awareness paired with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Capable of managing multiple tender submissions simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and confidence in engaging with clients, main contractors, and suppliers.
- Possession of a clean driving license is desirable.
- Trade experience in carpentry and joinery or academic credentials in quantity surveying or construction economics.
- Experience preparing pricing for main contractors on commercial fit-out projects.
- Familiarity with CAD drawings and software used for cutting-lists and production scheduling.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range between €45,000 and €55,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
- Provision of a company vehicle or fuel card.
