Role Overview

Gov Facility Services Ltd (GFSL) is seeking two practical and confident individuals to join their team at HMP Bedford as Escort / Fabric Operatives. These roles are full-time and permanent, based at HMP Bedford, a Category B adult male prison operating like a self-contained town on St Loyes Street (MK40 1HG). The salary offered for this position is 7,505.8 with an additional 5% for shift patterns.

Team and Environment

The Facilities Maintenance Team at HMP Bedford functions as the heart of the operation, ensuring smooth and safe prison functioning impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, families, and the community. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, cleaners, and administrators all dedicated to creating a secure environment and positive change.

Key Responsibilities and Experience Requirements

• Carry out maintenance tasks as an Escort / Fabric Operative, using hand and power tools within the fabric and hard FM environment
• Adhere to strict health and safety regulations to maintain a secure environment
• Foster excellent organizational skills, time management, and effective interpersonal communication
• Experience working in prison settings is desirable but not essential
• Possess up-to-date First Aid at Work certification
• Hold Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of health and safety standards

Additional Information

GFSL is a Ministry of Justice business providing critical facilities management services to Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). The business anticipates that after the successful procurement process, FM service provision will transition to the private sector no sooner than August 2027.
