Position Summary
We are searching for a highly skilled Epoxy Engineer specialized in epoxy materials and dispensing processes within optical and photonic device manufacturing. This position plays a vital role in guaranteeing assembly reliability, optimizing adhesive performance, and streamlining production processes to support Lumilens' groundbreaking products.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate, evaluate, and improve epoxy adhesives for applications including die attach, fiber attach, lid seals, and underfills tailored for photonics devices.
- Choose optimal adhesives considering optical clarity, thermal resilience, mechanical strength, and long-term reliability.
- Design and validate production dispensing, curing, and handling processes to ensure consistent quality.
- Define process parameters, material specifications, and implement control plans for scalable manufacturing.
- Investigate adhesive failures through root cause analysis addressing issues like delamination, voids, misalignment, and optical losses.
- Drive yield improvements and defect reduction initiatives within manufacturing lines.
- Address performance challenges of epoxy under varying environmental and mechanical stresses.
- Assist in new product introduction and production scale-up at multiple manufacturing locations globally.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors to optimize dispensing and curing technologies including automation solutions.
- Lead reliability testing efforts such as thermal cycling, damp heat, shear and pull testing, and aging assessments.
- Work alongside Quality teams on failure analysis, corrective actions, and customer escalations.
- Serve as the key technical consultant globally on epoxy materials and processing issues.
- Develop training programs and technical documentation for engineering and operations personnel.
- Maintain strong partnerships with epoxy suppliers for formulation enhancements and strategic alignment.
Candidate Profile
- 5 to 10+ years of direct experience with epoxy chemistries and adhesive application processes.
- Background in manufacturing environments related to optics, photonics, semiconductors, or precision electronic devices.
- Proven ability in production troubleshooting and providing factory-level technical support.
- Expert understanding of epoxy chemistry including curing systems, fillers, and modifiers suited for optical assemblies.
- Experience with dispensing technologies such as time-pressure, auger, jetting, and automated systems.
- Strong grasp of how thermal, mechanical, and optical factors influence adhesive selection and usage.
- Competence in analyzing failure modes and making decisions driven by numerical data.
- Familiarity with silicon photonics, fiber optic components, and laser or optical module assemblies.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as Telcordia, JEDEC, and MIL-STD.
- Excellent communication skills in English, capable of training, mentoring, and delivering presentations both in-person and virtually.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required.
