Engineering Technician

Role Overview

This position involves operating and maintaining advanced hotel systems including electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and boiler equipment. Key responsibilities cover upkeep across guest rooms, public areas, tools, fire alarm and life safety systems, energy conservation, emergencies response, accident prevention, and detailed record keeping.

Core Responsibilities

• Maintain guest rooms and public areas by handling issues such as unclogging drains, repairing plumbing, hardware, electrical equipment, lamps, air conditioners, and cosmetic items.
• Ensure proper cleaning, lubrication, and protection of hotel tools and equipment, including secure storage and maintenance of personal tool pouches.
• Monitor and respond promptly to fire alarm and life safety systems, possessing working knowledge of fire sprinkler and emergency power systems and acting swiftly during emergencies.
• Observe and analyze hotel energy and utility usage; suggest energy-saving measures to the engineering department.
• Be readily available for emergencies, protecting guests, staff, and property, and restoring normal operations swiftly.
• Promote safety by adhering to departmental Job Safety Analysis, preventing accidents, identifying hazards, and correcting unsafe conditions immediately.
• Maintain logs by reading and recording meter readings (electric, water, LPG) and swimming pool measurements multiple times a day, ensuring consistent handovers between shifts.
• Address maintenance requests from various departments and execute the preventive maintenance program as scheduled.
• Comply fully with Standard Operating Procedures and perform additional tasks assigned by supervisors or the Assistant Chief Engineer.

Interdepartmental Communication & Training

• Serve as liaison between Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, Health Club, Kitchen and other departments.
• Follow daily assignments from immediate supervisor and keep detailed records of task completion.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, supporting overall hotel operational efficiency.
• Maintain open communication with supervisors regarding materials and tool supplies and follow up on backorders.
• Assist in training new hires and on-the-job trainees, providing technical advice and support to other engineering staff.
• Commit to continuous self-improvement and professional development.

General Professional Conduct

• Ensure effective communication across all hotel departments.
• Work independently to analyze and solve problems using available resources while maintaining high quality standards.
• Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
• Identify innovation opportunities to improve service delivery and product offerings to exceed client expectations.
• Consistently apply safe work practices and promptly report any occupational health and safety concerns.
• Stay knowledgeable of all relevant federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

• Perform required repairs and maintenance tasks efficiently within designated timeframes.

• Keep mechanical and electrical plant equipment in excellent condition.

Qualifications & Attributes

• High school diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate required.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a comparable role.
• Strong technical knowledge of advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and boiler systems.
• Ability to read and interpret test equipment, measuring devices, safety manuals, blueprints, schematic drawings, and technical parts lists.
• Proficient in oral and written English with strong communication skills across diverse groups.
• Familiarity with emergency procedures including fire response, medical emergencies, bomb threat, water and gas leaks, electrical failures, and elevator safety protocols.
