About the Role
The Engineering Manager for Search Platforms at Google leads a team of software engineers working at the forefront of information retrieval and search technologies. This role requires both deep technical expertise and strong leadership skills to guide large-scale engineering projects across multiple sites globally, enhancing the experience of billions of users worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Operate in a dynamic, rapidly evolving environment at the core of Search, continuously improving processes while maintaining agility and drive within the team.
- Leverage AI systems to enhance team productivity and shape strategic decisions affecting project outcomes.
- Collaborate with technical leads to define team scope and impact, clearly communicating responsibilities and boundaries across teams and individuals.
- Promote a healthy team culture, focusing on psychological safety, open communication, timely resolution of conflicts, and fostering collaboration both within the team and with partner groups.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree or an equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in software development using one or more programming languages such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in people management and 2 years in technical leadership roles.
- Preferred candidates hold a Master's or PhD in Computer Science or related technical disciplines.
- Experience of 5 years or more in working within complex organizational structures.
- Proven ability to lead through both technical challenges and organizational complexity.
- Proficiency with Java and/or C++ is highly desirable.
- Strong passion for technology, collaboration, and tackling difficult challenges.
