About the Team

The payments ecosystem is rapidly evolving, with increasing demand for diverse local payment methods, cards, wallets, bank payments, buy now pay later, and digital currencies. Stripe's Local Payment Methods (LPM) segment is one of its fastest-growing areas. LPM Foundations is responsible for building and maintaining the core platform that empowers LPM product teams and developers to integrate and run payment methods efficiently at scale. This team turns complex product setups into reusable, self-service platform features that allow quicker launches and reduced operational costs.

Role Overview

This is a role combining payments expertise with platform and AI integration. The focus is on creating foundational tools, user interfaces, and workflows that help product and engineering teams leverage AI to speed development, make better decisions, and scale reliable payment solutions globally.

Responsibilities

• Develop the vision and strategy for platform capabilities that assist LPM teams in building, integrating, and operating payment methods at scale.
• Guide engineers in designing and delivering robust, self-service foundational systems to simplify complex integrations and accelerate product launches.
• Create an AI-centric engineering culture by designing platform capabilities and practices that enable autonomous development and enhanced decision-making with AI.
• Collaborate closely with customers, product, engineering, partnerships, legal, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure aligned priorities and end-to-end solution delivery.
• Lead technical and architectural decision-making alongside staff engineers, balancing reliability, scalability, speed, and regional payment complexities.
• Enhance team operational processes to ensure efficient execution and constructive engagement across the company.
• Recruit, develop, and retain talented engineers, fostering a challenging, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
• Participate as a member of Stripe’s engineering management team contributing to company-wide engineering initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years managing engineering teams responsible for delivering high-quality products.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to operate autonomously in uncertain and ambiguous environments.
• Proven success in recruiting, coaching, and building effective engineering teams.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, disciplined thinking, clear communication, and ability to make difficult decisions and trade-offs.
• Technical expertise to partner effectively with senior engineers on architecture and technology strategy.
• Experience creating a healthy, inclusive, and motivating work culture.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise building platforms, developer tools, or large distributed systems.
• Experience leveraging AI within software development, engineering workflows, or product delivery to generate sustainable value.
• Excellent communication skills tailored for leadership, users, and broad audiences.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
• Experience managing fully remote or geographically distributed teams.

Work Location Expectations

Employees are generally expected to spend at least 50% of their work time in the local office or collaborating with users, although this may vary by team, role, and location. Teams in places like Dublin work fully onsite. The intent is to balance in-person collaboration with remote flexibility.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position in Dublin is €136,000 to €204,000. Salary differs by location and specific level and narrows during hiring based on individual factors including experience. Benefits may include equity, bonuses, retirement plans, health coverage, and wellness allowances.
