About the Role
Scopely invites a passionate Lead Systems Designer to join our Star Trek Fleet Command team in Dublin, working primarily onsite. This role focuses on shaping and owning the design standards and player experiences for a leading 4X MMO, offering a chance to define player growth, mastery, and progression within monthly content updates and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design vision and development pipeline for new game features, guiding design and UX teams to create engaging player experiences.
- Direct and mentor fellow designers, fostering talent growth and ensuring high design quality within systems and economy creation.
- Hands-on involvement in crafting gameplay mechanics centered on resource generation, spending strategies, time gating, and progression pacing.
- Develop systems that enhance player choice and long-term engagement across the game.
- Leverage Excel and Google Sheets to model in-game economies and pace player progression effectively.
- Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, analysts, and engineers to deliver features that push genre boundaries.
- Analyze game performance through data, player feedback, and testing to inform design decisions.
- Plan for scalable, sustainable content and system health over the long term.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years in a game design leadership position.
- At least 8 years of experience designing systems or economies in live free-to-play games, ideally within MMO, 4X, or strategy categories.
- Proven expertise in free-to-play systems design and progression modeling.
- Experienced people manager with strong mentoring capabilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of game design disciplines, including game concept, progression, interface design, monetization, and retention strategies.
- Track record of delivering features that balance enjoyment, engagement, and monetization successfully.
- Ability to translate KPIs and data insights into actionable design directives.
- Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets to manage power scaling, progression pacing, and resource flows.
- Experience working collaboratively across multifunctional teams in live game production environments.
- A positive, thoughtful, and cooperative approach to game development.
Preferred Skills
- In-depth knowledge of the 4X genre, particularly with free-to-play elements.
- Familiarity with SQL, scripting, or simulation tools.
- Passion for Star Trek, sci-fi themes, or complex strategic social games.
- Experience in designing alliance or cooperative systems for large-scale games.
