Senior Applied Scientist - Machine Learning

Role Overview

Join the HUK-COBURG Versicherungsgruppe as a Senior Applied Scientist specializing in Machine Learning. Based in Coburg, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing cutting-edge Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), and statistical models tailored to solve critical business problems with significant strategic impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and advance ML, DL, and statistical models addressing business-critical issues.
• Analyze complex structured and unstructured datasets such as texts, documents, and time series.
• Develop appropriate modeling strategies for predictive analytics, forecasting, and anomaly detection.
• Apply and evaluate state-of-the-art ML and DL methodologies including neural networks and transformer-based architectures for unstructured data processing.
• Plan, execute, and assess experiments while formulating and validating data-driven hypotheses to support business decision-making.
• Translate scientific insights from ML, DL, statistics, and optimization into robust, production-ready applications.
• Develop and maintain scalable, reproducible ML/DL pipelines complying with modern MLOps standards emphasizing stability, scalability, and traceability.

Candidate Profile

• Master's degree or higher (PhD preferred) in Data Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
• Several years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, or in Advanced Analytics, preferably focused on marketing, customer analytics, or data-driven business models.
• Deep expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and implementing productive data science solutions.
• Strong programming skills in Python along with solid theoretical and practical knowledge of contemporary ML algorithms and tooling.
• Desirable experience in causal inference, uplift modeling, recommender systems, or personalization techniques.
• Proactive, hands-on problem solver with a solution-oriented mindset, taking full ownership of projects and their outcomes.
• Willingness to work onsite in Coburg as part of a hybrid work environment.
