Job Overview

We are seeking an Elixir Engineer to join our WebRTC team, responsible for the backend services powering our real-time communication and Voice SDK platform. You'll lead backend development covering authentication, token management, push notification delivery, connection proxying, routing, and diagnostic logging. This role demands expertise in distributed systems, ensuring reliability and scalability under significant load.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build Elixir backend services for real-time communication and Voice SDK products.
• Manage backend systems related to authentication, token issuance, push notifications, connection proxying, routing, and diagnostics.
• Enhance reliability, scalability, and maintainability of customer-facing services experiencing high traffic.
• Refine connection setup, authentication flows, session handling, and overall service behavior for real-time workloads.
• Develop observability features including structured logging, metrics, dashboards, alerts, and operational tools.
• Increase transparency in push notification delivery, ensuring issues with APNs and FCM are detectable.
• Troubleshoot production problems involving application, networking, and client connectivity layers.
• Optimize deployment procedures, rollout safety, and production readiness for distributed systems.
• Convert recurring customer and operational problems into long-term engineering solutions.
• Drive the technical vision for these services and contribute to enhancing backend practices within the team.

Candidate Profile

• Proven production experience with Elixir or Erlang, including deploying and operating BEAM-based services using OTP (GenServer, supervision trees, process design) and familiarity with the Elixir ecosystem (Phoenix, Ecto, Telemetry).
• Experience designing high-load, high-throughput backend applications with strong architectural judgment.
• Knowledge of persistent connection technologies such as WebSockets and Phoenix Channels, including session lifecycle and backpressure management.
• Experience building or managing authentication, token, or session management services.
• Strong background in distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
• Hands-on ownership of backend services across their full lifecycle: from design through deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and scaling.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, continuous integration/deployment, and modern production infrastructures.
• Strong focus on observability practices including logging, metrics collection, dashboards, alerting, and root cause analysis.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and the capability to diagnose issues spanning software, network, and infrastructure layers.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers across different technology stacks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with push notification systems such as APNs or FCM.
• Knowledge of DNS, edge routing, service discovery, or global distributed systems.
• Building diagnostic, observability, or troubleshooting tooling internally.
• Development of backend services for consumption by mobile or JavaScript SDKs.
• Familiarity with WebRTC, VoIP, or voice/video communication technologies is a plus but not required.
• Contributions to open-source projects within the BEAM ecosystem.
