The Core Infrastructure team at Stripe is dedicated to building and maintaining the foundational infrastructure used by all product teams. This infrastructure supports critical business operations and demands a vision focused on exceptional scale, availability, efficiency, and reliability. The team collaborates closely with internal teams and external open-source partners to develop distributed services and scale technologies.

Infrastructure responsibilities span operating systems, databases, caching, high availability, disaster recovery, cloud computing, Linux servers, container orchestration, mesh networking, service discovery, change management, and network edge systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and sustain distributed cloud infrastructure and platform services.
• Enhance scalability, automate workflows, ensure reliability, and improve observability for infrastructure systems.
• Manage day-to-day service operations, debug production issues, and support internal customers.
• Engage in planning and prioritizing the technology roadmap.

Candidate Profile

We seek candidates who meet the minimum qualifications listed below; meeting preferred qualifications is beneficial but not mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications

• Over five years of professional experience in software development.
• Proven experience building, deploying, and managing infrastructure on major cloud platforms.
• Strong background engineering platform services or distributed systems at scale, with understanding of operating system fundamentals.
• Skilled in maintaining and debugging distributed systems, including diagnosing low-level resource issues.
• Familiarity with operational best practices and modern observability tools, such as distributed tracing, structured logging, and system metrics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with prominent cloud providers like AWS, Azure, GCP, or Oracle Cloud.
• Proficiency in system programming languages such as Go, Rust, C/C++.
• Deep knowledge of Linux internal mechanisms, performance tuning, and kernel-level troubleshooting.
• Experience managing Kubernetes clusters and understanding container internals.
• Background in scaling networking and traffic management systems.
• Experience managing critical incidents in production environments.

Work Environment

Employees assigned to office locations are generally expected to be onsite at least 50% of the time monthly, with some teams or locations requiring more in-office presence to support collaboration and workflows adequately.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range in Sydney is AUD 166,400 to AUD 249,600 annually, varying by location, experience, and role level during interviews. Additional compensation may include equity, bonuses, retirement plans, health coverage, and wellness benefits.
