Job description

About TensorX

TensorX is a Dublin-based sovereign AI infrastructure platform hosting open-source large language models on EU-sovereign infrastructure. Our offerings provide private, zero-retention inference tailored for regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, and government. We deliver drop-in OpenAI-compatible APIs to enable seamless AI integration without compromising data privacy, compliance, or performance.

Role Overview

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and expand our product engineering team. Reporting directly to the CTO, this role involves ownership of hiring, mentoring, and managing delivery processes for engineers working on our customer-facing platform. It is a hands-on leadership position within a fast-moving scaleup, requiring proximity to the codebase and architecture to effectively lead senior engineers. You will define hiring standards, optimize workflows, and help build a robust product organization while guiding technical decisions and prioritizing delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead hiring, onboarding, coaching, 1:1s, and performance management for engineers while fostering senior individual contributor growth without excessive hierarchy.
  • Collaborate with CTO to define hiring benchmarks, design interview processes, and build a diverse and high-performing full-stack team.
  • Establish lightweight and effective planning, prioritization, review, and release processes to enhance predictability without hindering scaleup agility.
  • Provide technical leadership by guiding product stack architecture, reviewing design and pull requests, ensuring quality, security, and operability.
  • Partner with product stakeholders and the CTO to translate roadmap goals into prioritized engineering initiatives, assessing feasibility and trade-offs early.
  • Coordinate cross-team efforts among Golang, Python backend, inference, and platform groups to ensure smooth integration of product work with shared infrastructure and APIs.
  • Maintain operational excellence by monitoring team capacity, focus, and effectiveness; proactively identifying risks and maintaining momentum.
  • Promote a culture of strong testing practices, rigorous code reviews, reliability, operational discipline, and embrace AI-augmented development tools.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years in software engineering, including significant experience as a senior individual contributor on modern full-stack or platform products.
  • At least 2 years managing engineers, involving hiring, coaching, and performance management, preferably within a startup or scaleup environment.
  • Solid technical expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript product stacks, specifically React/Next.js and Node.js, with capability to evaluate designs and negotiate trade-offs.
  • Demonstrable ability to build or refine hiring processes and elevate talent acquisition standards.
  • Experience defining pragmatic and agile-inspired work processes suitable for small teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to interface directly with the CTO and senior engineers.
  • Proven track record of delivering SaaS or developer-oriented production-ready products.

Preferred Skills

  • Working knowledge of Golang and Python, as well as experience with large language model and inference platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure including AWS, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience managing teams through phases of growth with varied seniority levels.
  • Collaboration experience with specialized platform, ML/inference, and data teams while owning product engineering outcomes.
  • Understanding of authentication, payment systems, and multi-tenant SaaS architecture considerations.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Benefits and Terms

  • Competitive compensation package tailored to experience.
  • 25 days of paid annual leave.
  • Office located centrally in Dublin with hybrid working options.
  • Free inference tokens as part of perks.
