Role Overview

We are seeking a Security Engineering Manager to lead and expand a high-performing engineering team focused on cutting-edge AI and cybersecurity. Reporting to the CISO, you will steer the technical security roadmap of our digital biology platform at the frontier of AI innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor security engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and impactful delivery.
• Collaborate on designing and executing a long-term security strategy encompassing identity and access management, cloud and network security, secure software development lifecycle, and security monitoring.
• Drive innovative technical projects supporting advanced machine learning models and novel therapeutics.
• Oversee cloud infrastructure and platform security by leveraging AI and autonomous workflows to automate and enhance security posture management.
• Coordinate with InfoSec program managers and engineering leadership to maintain KPI-driven roadmaps and report progress to senior management.
• Partner with medical and machine learning research teams to optimize operational speed while ensuring secure computational environments.
• Serve as a critical liaison within the wider Alphabet/Google network and manage relationships with strategic security vendors.
• Act as senior escalation point for complex security incidents, architectural vulnerabilities, and risk remediation efforts.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical security teams within fast-moving scale-ups, startups, or top tech organizations.
• Extensive expertise in defining and implementing security architectures in complex, multi-tenant cloud environments.
• Professional familiarity with security, regulatory, and architecture challenges related to AI, machine learning, and life sciences sectors.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to shift between strategic risk planning and hands-on technical implementations, balancing trade-offs effectively.
• Preference for automation and scalable security solutions utilizing AI and autonomous workflows.
• Proficient in securing cloud platforms (preferably Google Cloud Platform), container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) and Zero Trust security frameworks.
• Excellent commercial and scientific insight to evaluate risk, enabling agile business decisions without compromising critical assets.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate intricate technical security risks into clear strategic plans for executives and stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

• Experience or architectural knowledge of securing AI/ML training pipelines, protecting model assets, and regulating autonomous workflows.
• Understanding of compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, ISO 42001, and healthcare-related standards like GxP, FDA regulations, and the EU AI Act.
• Hands-on development skills in Python or Go as well as expertise in DevSecOps automation, continuous integration/delivery security, Terraform, and advanced cloud-native security controls.
• Relevant cloud security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or OSCP are advantageous.
