Role Overview

We are looking for a senior Engineering Lead to head our Burnaby office's engineering team. This pivotal onsite position involves overseeing a team of around 10 engineers spanning growth, enterprise delivery, DevOps/SRE, and data engineering. The role requires hands-on involvement in architecture and coding while setting high standards and nurturing the growth of technical leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering efforts at the Burnaby office, maintaining high standards, discipline, and operating cadence.
  • Create and sustain a high-performance culture by promoting top performers and addressing underperformance promptly and empathetically.
  • Foster an AI-native engineering approach where AI agents are integral to workflows, enhancing output.
  • Oversee delivery for critical domains such as growth, pricing, data science, and sensitive systems like authentication and PII management.
  • Collaborate with teams globally across Mountain View, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Burnaby to align engineering efforts.
  • Influence engineering operations across related units like Platform/SRE and security without direct reporting authority.

Candidate Profile

  • Several years of engineering management experience with demonstrated turnaround of at least one team.
  • Strong people management skills including coaching, performance management, and talent development.
  • Technical leadership with ability to debate architecture and stay technically hands-on.
  • Ownership of key business metrics like conversion, pricing, reliability, and cost with proactive issue management.
  • Experience managing cross-functional or dotted-report teams successfully.
  • Previous startup experience preferred, especially in AI or video contexts.
  • Commitment to working onsite in Burnaby, BC, full-time.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience with at least 8 years in software development and 3+ years in engineering management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in growth engineering focusing on experimentation and monetization.
  • Experience in enterprise/B2B engineering, including integrations and security reviews.
  • Knowledge of security and compliance for PII-heavy systems (such as SOC 2, access control).
  • Familiarity with creator tools, video technologies, or creator economy.
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations significantly.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive healthcare including medical, vision, and dental coverage.
  • Flexible paid time off policies.
  • Generous budget for equipment, software, and office furniture like MacBook, 4K monitors, and standing desks.
  • Access to cutting-edge tools and technologies.
  • Complimentary lunches and a diverse selection of snacks and drinks onsite.
  • Free parking available.
  • Visa sponsorship options subject to eligibility.
