Role Overview

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be integral in developing Gallagher’s cutting-edge security solutions. Working within an agile product team, you will design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software components, collaborating closely with hardware engineers, architects, and product teams to address complex technical challenges and produce reliable technology trusted worldwide.

Technical Environment

Your work will involve direct interaction with embedded Linux and RTOS platforms on ARM-based hardware, including board bring-up and debugging in partnership with electronics engineers. You will utilize modern C++ within a codebase supported by continuous integration pipelines and automated testing frameworks. Security is a core consideration integrated from the outset, including secure boot mechanisms, hardware-based key storage, and cryptographic features. The products developed have long lifecycles, designed to remain dependable and secure for a decade or longer, influencing the focus on quality, upgradeability, and technical debt management.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and sustain embedded software features and modules.
• Work collaboratively with hardware engineers during board initialization, debugging, and integration processes.
• Participate in defining requirements, solution architecture, and maintain thorough technical documentation.
• Evaluate software performance for optimization opportunities.
• Provide ongoing support for existing products through effective troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Engage in code reviews, automated testing, and initiatives that enhance overall quality.
• Estimate tasks, coordinate priorities, and deliver outcomes within agile team structures.
• Commit to continual personal technical growth and promote best engineering practices.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a relevant tertiary degree or possesses equivalent professional experience.
• Has a minimum of three years experience in commercial software development.
• Demonstrates strong proficiency in Embedded C/C++ programming.
• Possesses solid understanding of digital electronics, microprocessors, and embedded system design.
• Experienced with debugging tools, version control systems, and contemporary development environments.
• Familiar with automated testing and implementing software quality standards.
• Knowledgeable about multi-threaded and asynchronous software applications.
• Exposure to board bring-up procedures, device driver development, or embedded Linux systems is expected.
• Experience with Python and/or Ruby scripting is advantageous.
• Skilled in collaborating effectively within an agile, cross-functional team setting.
• Additional expertise in cryptography, embedded security principles, or Zephyr OS would be beneficial.
