Role Description

We are looking for Embedded Software Engineers to join our technology teams responsible for the embedded software of Enphase's microgrid product line including inverters and gateway devices. This role spans full project lifecycle from initial concept through production, cooperating closely with teams in multiple global locations such as California, Texas, India, and New Zealand. The position is based at our Christchurch R&D center working on control systems for autonomous grid connection, monitoring, and regulation. Collaboration across various cross-functional groups is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize artificial intelligence and automated coding tools to speed software development while applying thorough engineering judgment for software design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Create embedded Linux software suitable for constrained microprocessor environments.
  • Translate software design concepts into working implementations.
  • Prepare detailed documentation covering engineering requirements and solutions.
  • Conduct firmware testing, debugging, and troubleshooting within complex systems.
  • Engage with cross-disciplinary teams to identify and resolve technical issues.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines with at least 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • A self-directed professional capable of working independently with minimal oversight.
  • Well-versed in the full Software Development Life Cycle and proficient in design, development, debugging, version control, and bug tracking tools.
  • Experienced in multiple testing levels including unit, integration, system, and regression.
  • Proficient in embedded Linux software development.
  • Strong expertise in C/C++ programming and fundamental operating system concepts.
  • Deep understanding of real-time control systems, multithreading, and inter-process communication mechanisms.
  • Solid grasp of data structures and algorithmic principles.
  • Knowledgeable in scripting languages such as Ruby, Lua, or Python.
  • Experienced with development utilities including GCC, GDB, GNU Make, and cross-compilation techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with AI and automated coding tools.
  • Familiarity with ARM-based microcontroller platforms.
  • Experience using Git version control, Jira issue tracking, and Confluence documentation.
  • Knowledge of integrating communication protocols like Zigbee, Bluetooth, BLE, WiFi, and power line carrier.
  • Background in solar energy, energy storage, or microgrid system products.

Additional Information

The Christchurch R&D centers located in Middleton and Wigram are central to developing the firm's flagship Microinverter products. The New Zealand team includes over 120 engineers and support personnel working closely alongside globally situated colleagues.
