Electrical Power Production Technician

Overview

The Electrical Power Production Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical power plants and mobile power generation equipment, ensuring continuous and efficient power supply.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and operate electrical power plants, distribution systems, and automatic transfer panels.
• Inspect equipment for serviceability and compliance with technical standards and directives.
• Position and adjust engines (gasoline, diesel, turbine), generators, switchgear, air compressors, and auxiliary equipment.
• Modify and repair equipment according to technical manuals and operational requirements.
• Perform inspections and test safety, fuel, lubrication, cooling, air pressure systems, pumps, regulators, governors, and accessories.
• Monitor and interpret instrument readings including ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, synchroscopes, and engine gauges.
• Adjust engine-generator systems for correct voltage, frequency, and synchronization; manage multi-generator synchronization.
• Operate high voltage switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, and control panels for power control and distribution.
• Diagnose malfunctions, inspect parts, and use precision test equipment to troubleshoot issues.
• Repair, replace, and bench-test defective components and subassemblies; perform corrosion control.
• Maintain records of operations, inspections, maintenance, meter readings, and fuel consumption.
• Review performance data to ensure maintenance adequacy and provide recommendations for improvements.
• Study layouts, wiring, and schematics to analyze and enhance system operations.
• Develop maintenance and operating procedures to maximize system efficiency and comply with environmental policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least 5 years of experience in operating and maintaining engines, generators, and power distribution equipment across various models.
• Task-certified 5-Level AAS Power Production certification.

Knowledge & Skills

• Organizational skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Customer service orientation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong understanding of electronics and electrical systems including generation, conversion, distribution, and utilization of power.
• Familiarity with low and medium voltage circuits, circuit breakers, switches, fuses, regulators, relays, and related instruments.
• Competence in reading wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings, and technical publications.
• Experience with internal combustion engines and generator operation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of safety regulations, environmental policies, management principles, and test equipment usage.

Additional Requirements

• Must hold a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
• Possession of a valid U.S. Passport is preferred.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Residency Visa for Qatar.
• Capability to work under extreme environmental conditions such as dust and high temperatures.
• Ability to endure extended hours and exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
• Travel requirement: 100% in deployed locations.
• Security clearance: Must currently possess and maintain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance.
