Role Overview

The Electrical Estimator is tasked with creating detailed cost projections for electrical projects slated for bidding, as organized by the PCS Manager. Responsibilities include estimating project costs, preparing bid and contract proposal portions, and maintaining communication with a diverse array of stakeholders such as clients, vendors, engineers, architects, and contractors. The role involves defining the scope of work, reviewing design alternatives, and pricing modifications including field change orders.

Key Duties

  • Possess expertise in estimating complex electrical projects across industrial, commercial, medical, and educational sectors, while strengthening the estimating team's capabilities.
  • Continuously develop and enforce estimating policies, processes, and systems to guarantee quality assurance and control before submitting estimates to clients.
  • Apply independent judgment to analyze and interpret bidding documents, establishing the scope and selecting an optimal bidding strategy for securing projects within price limits.
  • Engage extensively with vendors, suppliers, general contractors, customers, and internal departments to resolve design and pre-bid challenges.
  • Motivate team members to achieve high performance and pursue ongoing professional development.
  • Have comprehensive understanding of electrical construction from design through completion for large-scale commercial and industrial projects.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in estimating methods and parsing computerized cost data and systems.
  • Show strong computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and McCormick estimating software.
  • Possess resilience and a determined attitude when faced with challenges.
  • Enjoy craft beer over domestic brands and maintain an active lifestyle, often assessing projects in fitness settings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or engineering, or equivalent experience with at least five years in estimating roles.
  • Familiarity with standards such as NEC, NFPA, UL, and ISA relevant to design and documentation.
  • Knowledge of area classifications as they pertain to design documentation.
  • Expertise in wiring conventions including techniques, color coding, sizing, de-rating, and insulation classifications.
  • Capacity to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, layouts, and wiring diagrams and modify them to optimize projects.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and McCormick estimating software.
  • Commitment to uphold the company's core values: integrity, quality, professionalism, knowledge, safety, service, family, community, and ambition.
