Electrical Engineering Specialist

Job Overview

The Electrical Engineering Specialist will provide expert advice and support for electrical engineering efforts throughout the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases and during start-up, until the project transitions to the permanent operational asset. The role ensures that project outcomes align with operational goals for safety, reliability, maintainability, and operability during the entire facility design lifecycle.

Internal and External Collaboration

• Maintain continuous coordination with the Project Management Team and Operations departments.
• Engage periodically with Engineering & Projects and the HSEQ Group.
• Liaise frequently with shareholder Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), EPC contractors, vendors, suppliers, and engineering consultants.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

• Influence project direction by balancing capital expenditure (CAPEX) with operational expenditure (OPEX) considerations throughout the project.
• Ensure all assigned projects strictly adhere to Qatar Gas (QG) standards, processes, and procedures.
• Participate in design and procedure reviews, offering expert technical input to facilitate field operations while mitigating risks introduced by new technologies.
• Provide comprehensive electrical engineering support including design reviews, commissioning, start-up activities, failure investigations, and sophisticated troubleshooting.
• Develop and manage surveillance and administration programs focused on critical electrical systems within new projects to enhance reliability, availability, and cybersecurity.
• Establish and document best practice guidelines and propose initiatives to improve performance in your expertise area.
• Plan and organize tasks and schedules to meet departmental KPIs effectively.
• Offer technical advice to other disciplines and functions to bolster overall business aims.
• Oversee electrical engineering work conducted by contractors, consultants, and service providers.
• Mentor junior engineers on implementing company integrity and reliability frameworks.
• Facilitate smooth project tie-ins for systems under your responsibility.
• Maintain and address issues logged in an Issue Register, particularly those affecting reliability, availability, and cybersecurity, including risks from new technologies.
• Support complex and high-risk commissioning activities by implementing strict system monitoring, tuning, optimization, and providing advisory help to Operations and Maintenance teams.

Safety, Compliance, and Organizational Contribution

• Ensure all work complies with company policies and legal requirements for Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ).
• Support the Qatarization program by aiding the development of Qatari staff, an essential requirement for expatriate employees.
• Adhere to company firewall rules and anti-trust and competition laws in all activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• At least 8 years working experience within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Possession of specialist-level skills as defined within Electrical Technical Competencies.
