Overview
The Plant Inspector will conduct and facilitate inspection tasks during the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and startup phases, progressing through handover to the permanent asset management. The goal is to identify early defects to ensure the facility operates safely, effectively, and reliably, adhering strictly to established guidelines and targets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform external visual inspections and employ Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on company equipment including vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, pressure safety devices, piping, and lifting gear according to company standards; prepare and issue detailed inspection reports.
- Conduct initial integrity assessments for static equipment and piping, analyzing results and compiling reports using Meridium or comparable software.
- Monitor ongoing maintenance and capital project activities onsite, ensuring all welding, painting, fabrication, and installation tasks comply with maintenance procedures, international codes, and company policies.
- Carry out or oversee NDT procedures including dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, hardness testing, eddy current, infrared thermography, positive material identification, metallography, boroscopy, paint thickness measurement, stainless steel weld testing, and other special inspections, following all safety protocols.
- Generate inspection recommendations via Meridium or appropriate notification channels; track mitigation progress to completion to manage potential risks.
- Maintain inspection tools and equipment in operational readiness and coordinate procurement for additional instruments as necessary.
- Perform additional inspection-related responsibilities assigned by supervisors to meet annual goals and special assignments.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspection reports and data in computerized systems; update test outcomes and manage inspection notifications through SAP, monitoring completion of corrective actions.
- Lead and coordinate contractor inspection teams when required, ensuring compliance with company standards and quality of service.
Qualifications and Experience
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in in-service inspection.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Proficiency in English with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Competency in MS Word, Excel, and familiarity with relevant software tools and specifications.
- Experience using Meridium or similar data management platforms.
- Understanding of risk-based inspection principles, corrosion control, and damage mechanisms.
- Basic knowledge of plant processes and materials.
- Familiarity with inspection methods including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), and advanced NDT techniques.
- Knowledge of applicable international codes and standards.
- Certification in API 510/570 or equivalent, and API 653 is preferred.
