Electrical Commissioning Engineer

Job Overview

As an Electrical Commissioning Engineer based in Doha, Qatar, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing the commissioning activities related to electrical systems on construction or building services projects. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical testing and practical knowledge of LV panels, distribution boards, generators, UPS, earthing, and lighting systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and review electrical schematics, drawings, approved testing procedures, and assess installation readiness for low voltage panels, distribution boards, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, earthing systems, and lighting installations.
• Develop and prepare commissioning strategies including plans, method statements, inspection checklists, and testing timetables aligned with the schedule of construction activities.
• Conduct or supervise electrical performance tests, confirm equipment operation, verify protection settings, and examine interlocks, changeover sequences, and backup power systems.
• Collaborate closely with contractors and vendor specialists during testing and witness inspections, ensuring all safety measures such as safe isolation and permit adherence are strictly followed and that all identified defects are addressed.
• Document test outcomes comprehensively, produce commissioning reports, maintain accurate completion records, and assist with energisation approvals leading up to successful project handover.

Qualifications and Expertise

• Possess a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Hands-on experience in electrical testing and commissioning within construction or building services environments.
• Well-versed with low voltage distribution systems, generators, UPS units, earthing, lighting setups, protection systems, and various electrical testing tools.
• Capable of interpreting electrical diagrams and test data, drafting detailed technical reports, and adhering to established electrical safety standards and procedures.
