Job Overview
Join GFL Environmental as a Driver Helper based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan! This role involves supporting drivers and the team in efficiently collecting solid waste materials via collection trucks.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect solid waste and recyclable materials from customer sites or curbside when applicable.
- Guide the driver to safely operate and maneuver the vehicle, especially when reversing and navigating tight spaces.
- Operate on-truck equipment to compact trash and materials.
- Inspect the waste collection vehicle for necessary equipment such as brooms and shovels before departure.
- Immediately inform the driver about any customer concerns encountered.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, equipment checks, and comply with applicable federal, provincial, local, and company regulations related to safety and vehicle operations.
- Consistently wear required personal protective gear including gloves, reflective vest, safety glasses, and work boots.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct when interacting with customers and the public while in uniform or on route.
- Help keep the vehicle cab and exterior clean.
- Assist with sorting, cleaning carts, warehouse upkeep, pallet stacking, roll-off container management, and operating a cardboard compactor as needed.
- Participate in safety and branch meetings.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience or training related to the role between one to three months is desirable but not required.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to meet company standards for safety-sensitive positions.
