Diversional Therapist - Memory Care

About the Role

Join Summerset Retirement Villages in Whangarei as a Diversional Therapist and contribute to enriching the lives of seniors through engaging therapeutic recreational programs. In this role, you will foster an environment that supports dignity, independence, and meaningful social interactions within a care-focused community.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design and facilitate both individual and group activities that are enjoyable and purposeful.
• Encourage and assist residents' involvement in social activities within the Care Centre and the wider village community.
• Work collaboratively with team members to broaden the scope of village activities where appropriate.
• Record and monitor residents' progress and maintain thorough documentation of activities.
• Manage monthly budgets for activity programs under the guidance of the Village Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a National Certificate in Diversional Therapy (Level 4) or alternatively have a minimum of three years relevant experience in a similar role.
• Previous experience working specifically with dementia care populations.
• Excellent organizational and time management capabilities, demonstrating initiative and proactive planning.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for relationship building.
• First Aid certification or willingness to complete a two-day course.
• Valid full driving license and ability to operate a Mobility Van.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Details

• This is a permanent full-time position, scheduled Monday to Friday totaling 40 hours per week, with negotiable start and finish times.
