Role Overview

The Director of Software Engineering at Inception42 will oversee multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for the creation and maintenance of AI products and platforms in production. This role involves defining the technical vision, enhancing engineering execution, and ensuring that software, data, and machine learning systems are secure, reliable, and scalable. The role spans product delivery, architecture, quality assurance, DevSecOps, and applied research and development in a high-accountability environment centered on practical deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and prioritize engineering strategy aligned with company's product, technology, and business goals.
• Lead and mentor engineering managers and senior technical leaders across diverse teams.
• Cultivate an engineering culture emphasizing ownership, rigorous technical standards, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Manage planning and execution for complex engineering projects, balancing scope, timing, resources, costs, and quality.
• Provide architectural guidance and make technical decisions covering software platforms, data infrastructure, ML pipelines, and deployment systems.
• Enhance scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability of production data and ML systems.
• Set and enforce engineering practices for data management, MLOps, testing, release quality, observability, and readiness for operations.
• Integrate security and compliance into the software development lifecycle via automated DevSecOps controls.
• Champion targeted R&D projects, assess emerging technologies, and transition viable experiments into production.
• Collaborate extensively with Product, Data, AI/ML, Security, and Enterprise Architecture teams to align technical efforts with business outcomes.
• Establish clear mechanisms to monitor delivery health, technical risk, quality, and team performance.
• Effectively communicate engineering goals, progress, compromises, and results to both technical staff and executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in engineering principles demonstrated through successful leadership of diverse engineering teams handling complex deliveries.
• Proven experience deploying and managing production software, data, or machine learning systems at significant scale.
• In-depth knowledge of data infrastructure, MLOps processes, quality engineering, DevSecOps practices, and the software development lifecycle.
• Ability to align technical strategy and execution plans with business objectives, including prioritizing architecture and defining measurable goals.
• Sound judgment across multiple domains: reliability, security, performance, cost efficiency, and rapid delivery.
• Excellent communication skills for harmonizing technical teams and explaining decisions to senior stakeholders.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity, prioritizing conflicting demands, and taking full accountability for delivery.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degrees such as Masters or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical fields.
• Experience with regulated environments, multi-tenant platforms, highly available, or national-scale systems.
• Background in applied AI products, research partnerships, or model serving at production scale.
• Familiarity with leading platform modernization, scaling engineering organizations, or revising engineering operations.
