Role Overview
Harris Computer is looking for a Director of Research & Development to join their team remotely from anywhere within Canada or the US. This position occasionally requires travel, with approximately 1-2 trips annually to South Korea. Candidates must possess a valid current passport and be legally authorized for international travel, including visa exemptions or appropriate travel visas for South Korea. Preference is given to those able to work aligned with Korean Standard Time.
Language Requirements
The candidate must be fluent in both English and Korean.
Compensation
The salary for this position ranges between 100,000 and 140,000 USD annually.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical direction and guidance for all product development and organizational support services.
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success and impact of R&D projects and regularly report findings to senior leadership.
- Oversee the technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with strategic product development goals.
- Manage resources including budgeting, personnel deployment, and infrastructure allocation.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to R&D team members.
- Coordinate full lifecycle project management activities from planning through successful delivery.
- Facilitate collaboration across cross-functional teams ensuring consensus on project scope, timelines, risk management, and dependencies.
- Lead R&D planning processes, execution monitoring, risk mitigation, and progress reporting.
- Serve as the main liaison between the R&D team and executive management.
- Contribute insights on R&D strategy and objectives in alignment with business priorities to foster innovation.
- Work with executive leadership on departmental financial operations including budgeting and ensuring investment returns.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Have over 10 years of experience in software development.
- At least 5 years of experience managing projects or programs.
- Minimum 3 years in leadership or management roles.
- Proficiency in English and Korean languages.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with multitasking skills across various projects and initiatives.
- Proven track record in managing people and leading diverse, cross-functional teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication capabilities to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
- Ability to balance accountability for delivery with personnel leadership responsibilities.
- Willingness and flexibility for on-site visits to the R&D office as required.
