Job description

Role Overview

The Director of Maintenance Communities leads the global strategy for asset reliability and maintenance governance, overseeing cross-disciplinary experts to ensure top-tier maintainability and enhanced equipment performance. This role focuses on unifying fragmented plant maintenance approaches into a high-efficiency community, minimizing technical risk, standardizing policies, and fostering continuous improvement and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce universal technical standards across all maintenance disciplines, including spare parts management and preventive maintenance plans.
  • Develop and implement global policies for spare parts standardization to optimize inventory and facilitate asset sharing among mills.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Operations Executive Officer to create a comprehensive Asset Reliability Roadmap incorporating advanced technologies such as predictive maintenance.
  • Lead, mentor, and cultivate a diverse team of subject matter experts spanning Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, CNC, NDT, and others, promoting cross-functional troubleshooting and knowledge exchange.
  • Manage the Expert Community Ecosystem to institutionalize and disseminate specialized technical knowledge across operational units.
  • Oversee the Global Skill Matrix and certification processes for maintenance engineers and supervisors, ensuring continuous technical talent development.
  • Standardize Root Cause Analysis protocols for critical equipment failures to prevent recurrence across plants.
  • Conduct quarterly audits ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and technical standards across all maintenance operations worldwide.
  • Partner with Process Communities leadership to align machine capabilities with process demands.
  • Serve as the principal maintenance liaison during project engineering phases, influencing design and procurement decisions for new production lines.
  • Integrate maintainability and reliability (RAMS) considerations into procurement procedures and supervise execution of Site and Factory Acceptance Tests adhering to stringent standards.
  • Evaluate maintenance strategies for new equipment, verifying spare parts inventory and technical training readiness prior to operational handover.
  • Drive acquisition and implementation of advanced Industry 4.0 technologies including IoT and predictive analytics to boost equipment output and reliability.
  • Coordinate technology benchmarking efforts with original equipment manufacturers and competitors to identify performance gaps and close technical shortcomings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineering; MBA or master's degree preferred.
  • At least 15 years' experience in industrial maintenance management with a minimum of 7 years in senior leadership roles in heavy industries such as steel pipe manufacturing or large-scale steel production.
  • Extensive knowledge of Asset Management Systems including SAP and CMMS, alongside Industry 4.0 maintenance technologies.
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-disciplinary teams and implementing Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodologies.
