Role Overview

The Director of Infrastructure Engineering at Fiserv heads the Platform Engineering division and the Advanced Resolution Team (ART). This senior technical leadership position is responsible for steering the design, reliability, and scalability of internal developer platforms and infrastructure, including CI/CD pipelines. The role manages a team of leaders and senior engineers focused on advanced troubleshooting and incident resolution, enabling smoother developer productivity and supporting Fiserv's mission to be the premier fintech company.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement the strategic vision for the Platform Engineering team aligned with organizational objectives and best engineering practices.
• Develop, expand, and oversee internal developer platforms and infrastructure components to accelerate application development, reduce team cognitive load, and enhance system reliability.
• Promote platform-as-a-product philosophy, increasing platform adoption, user-friendliness, and business impact.
• Guide the design, development, and maintenance of CI/CD systems, container orchestration solutions (such as Kubernetes), observability tools, service mesh technologies, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Coordinate closely with application development, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), security, and DevOps teams to enforce consistent, automated, and secure developer workflows.
• Lead the Advanced Resolution Team in conducting deep diagnostics, root cause analyses, and recovery efforts during high-severity incidents.
• Implement proactive monitoring, anomaly detection, and incident response methods to reduce recurrence and mean time to resolution (MTTR).
• Serve as technical escalation point for complex challenges across infrastructure, networking, platform services, and application runtime environments.
• Collaborate with Information Security and compliance teams on platform hardening, audit preparedness, and incident forensic investigations.
• Recruit, mentor, and expand a high-performing team of platform engineers and incident responders.
• Cultivate an innovative, accountable, and continuously improving operational culture.
• Engage cross-functionally with product management, architecture, engineering, and operations to align priorities and deliver impactful outcomes.

Requirements

• Minimum 15 years of experience in software, infrastructure, or platform engineering, including at least 5 years in leadership roles at Director level or higher.
• Proven expertise managing platform engineering teams responsible for build systems, infrastructure automation, service discovery, secrets management, and developer tooling.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, service meshes (e.g., Istio, Linkerd), Terraform, CI/CD systems (such as Argo, Jenkins, GitHub Actions), and major cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure).
• Successful track record leading advanced troubleshooting or SRE groups during critical system outages or complex escalations.
• Strong understanding of distributed system architectures, observability frameworks, performance tuning, and incident command methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage diverse stakeholders effectively.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent military experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated sectors like fintech or financial GCCs, emphasizing compliance, observability, and resiliency.
• Familiarity with internal developer portals (e.g., Backstage) and platform-as-a-product adoption approaches.
• Relevant certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, ITIL, or comparable program management credentials.
• Exceptional analytical and proactive problem-solving abilities.
