Director – Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced senior leader to oversee and expand the infrastructure and cloud platforms that support a large-scale SaaS product environment. The ideal candidate should have extensive hands-on knowledge of cloud infrastructure, including AWS and VMware, hybrid cloud architectures, automation, networking, virtualization, storage, and distributed systems. This leadership role focuses on building scalable, reliable infrastructure for a SaaS product company rather than services or consulting environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for infrastructure, cloud, and platform engineering teams managing large SaaS ecosystems.
• Define and implement strategic infrastructure and cloud initiatives aligned with the company's product roadmap and growth objectives.
• Design, build, and operate infrastructure platforms that are highly available, scalable, secure, and resilient.
• Create and manage AWS cloud architectures and integrate hybrid-cloud solutions.
• Lead virtualization efforts using VMware and ensure seamless integration with cloud services.
• Drive infrastructure automation efforts including Infrastructure-as-Code implementations and platform engineering advancements.
• Enhance system reliability, scalability, performance, availability, and operational effectiveness.
• Make key architecture and engineering decisions across networking, compute, storage, virtualization, and distributed systems.
• Develop automation and self-service tools for engineering teams to improve workflow efficiency.
• Modernize infrastructure platforms, aiming to minimize manual operational interventions.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional groups including application engineering, product management, security, DevOps, and SRE teams.
• Establish and maintain engineering best practices around monitoring, incident handling, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and continuity planning.
• Mentor senior managers and engineers within the infrastructure teams, fostering growth and leadership.
• Identify and integrate AI-powered tools to boost engineering productivity, automation, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational processes.
• Advocate for the responsible and effective adoption of AI-driven engineering tools throughout infrastructure and platform engineering teams.

Mandatory Qualifications

• More than 18 years of professional experience in Infrastructure, Cloud, Platform, or Systems Engineering domains.
• At least 5 years in a director-level engineering leadership position managing infrastructure or cloud engineering teams.
• Proven background within SaaS, cloud software, or technology product companies.
• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and architectures.
• Strong expertise with VMware virtualization and hybrid-cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of networking, virtualization, compute, storage, distributed systems, high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Demonstrated success in implementing Infrastructure-as-Code solutions and infrastructure automation.
• Experience operating at scale supporting large SaaS infrastructure platforms.
• Strong grasp of infrastructure reliability, monitoring, performance metrics, security, and operational excellence practices.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to significantly improve engineering and operational productivity.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, architectural design, and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience

• Working with large-scale AWS infrastructure deployments.
• Familiarity with Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code platforms.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration technologies.
• Expertise in CI/CD pipelines and DevOps/SRE methodologies.
• Experience with observability, monitoring, and alerting platforms.
• Designing and managing multi-region, highly available SaaS infrastructures.
• Experience leading cloud migration and hybrid cloud transformation projects.
• Supporting business-critical, high-volume SaaS environments.
