Design Manager - Infrastructure

Job Overview

WSP is expanding its operations in Saudi Arabia and is seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to oversee the execution of multifaceted infrastructure projects, with a focus on land development and master-planned community initiatives. This role demands leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and aligning project delivery with the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design teams spanning multiple disciplines on large infrastructure and land development projects.
• Oversee the complete design cycle from initial concept through detailed design phases and support during construction, ensuring high quality at every stage.
• Formulate and operate design management frameworks, schedules, and strategic delivery plans.
• Ensure effective synchronization between disciplines such as roads, utilities, drainage, transportation, public realm, and structural components.
• Track project progress relative to scope, timelines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
• Foster teamwork among technical leaders to create integrated design solutions.
• Act as the main interface for clients regarding the delivery of design services and maintain robust connections with government entities, developers, and stakeholders in Saudi Arabia.
• Lead client engagements, including meetings, workshops, design critiques, and status presentations.
• Coordinate regulatory approvals and work alongside utility providers throughout project lifecycles.
• Contribute to business development by supporting client engagement efforts.
• Offer strategic technical guidance on significant infrastructure and land development projects.
• Monitor resource utilization within disciplines to ensure efficient design practices.
• Review submissions for compliance with project mandates, local regulations, and industry standards.
• Ensure design outcomes align with project goals encompassing functionality, sustainability, buildability, and cost efficiency.
• Identify and mitigate risks throughout the design process.
• Promote innovation, value-engineering, and industry best practices within project teams.
• Assist project leadership in planning and managing resources effectively.
• Oversee design budgets, staffing, deliverables, and financial performance.
• Manage design modifications and maintain strict scope control.
• Support proposal development, technical strategy, and fee estimation.
• Guide, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary team members, nurturing a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Support talent management and growth of technical capabilities within the company.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• At least 15 years' professional experience in engineering consultancy settings.
• Proven track record as a Design Manager or similar leadership role handling major multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
• Expertise in infrastructure projects linked to large-scale master-planned developments and land development.
• Extensive experience specifically within Saudi Arabia, with thorough knowledge of local authority requirements.
• Background with top-tier international engineering consultancies.
• Experience managing diverse teams in roads, utilities, drainage, transportation, and public realm engineering.
• Comprehensive understanding of design management procedures and project delivery methods.
• Excellent skills in stakeholder and client relationship management.
