Job description

Position Objective

The Department Manager will be accountable for the daily management and smooth operation of a single department within a large-format or Big-Box retail store containing multiple departments. This role focuses on driving sales, maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs) consonant with broader store aims, and fostering excellent customer service. A key responsibility also involves coaching the department team to ensure high performance and continuous enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the department's overall operation, maintaining high standards and smooth workflows in stock handling, sales, and customer service adherence to company policies.
  • Ensure the department consistently meets or exceeds store KPIs including sales targets, customer conversion ratios, satisfaction ratings, and prevention of stock losses.
  • Work collaboratively with other department managers and the Store Manager to align departmental goals with wider store objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze critical departmental metrics such as sales figures, stock quantities, and employee productivity to confirm goal alignment.
  • Provide comprehensive performance reports to the Store Manager, emphasizing successes and pinpointing improvement areas.
  • Apply corrective measures to processes based on KPI insights to improve outcomes continually.
  • Maintain superior visual merchandising standards to create attractive displays that enhance customer shopping experience in cooperation with the merchandising team.
  • Update merchandising presentations seasonally or during promotional campaigns and product launches.
  • Supervise customer engagement activities ensuring team members deliver exemplary service and promote loyalty programmes effectively.
  • Manage inventory by ensuring balanced stock levels to avoid shortages or surpluses, coordinating timely replenishment and rotation of goods.
  • Perform department operational duties including staff rostering, scheduling, and resolution of customer issues.
  • Enforce security measures to prevent theft or damage and uphold safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for personnel and shoppers.
  • Coach and develop department staff through regular training aimed at enhancing customer service, product knowledge, and operational skills.
  • Promote a healthy, collaborative team atmosphere that supports employee growth and productivity.

Desired Experience

The candidate should possess 3 to 4 years of retail experience, especially within large-format or Big-Box stores. Skills in leadership, KPI management, team mentorship, inventory oversight, and visual merchandising are highly preferred.
