Overview
Hutt City Council is seeking a skilled Democracy Advisor to join their Democratic Services team in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. This role is vital in supporting effective democratic processes, governance, and council decision-making to foster a connected, resilient, and inclusive city.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed agendas, minutes, reports, and other critical meeting documents.
- Provide expert guidance on Standing Orders, meeting procedures, and local government legislation.
- Serve as the principal governance advisor and contact for committee chairs.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, senior leadership, and council staff.
- Handle confidential information with the utmost professionalism and integrity.
- Identify and address risks and prospects to enhance democratic processes and delivery of services.
- Contribute actively to ongoing improvements within the Democratic Services team.
Candidate Profile
- Experienced in governance, democratic services, or political advisory roles.
- Comprehensive understanding of local government laws and governance protocols.
- Proven ability in preparing formal meeting documentation, including agendas and minutes.
- Exceptional written communication and report-writing skills.
- Highly organized, capable of juggling multiple priorities efficiently.
- Effective at building trusted partnerships with elected members and senior stakeholders.
- Possession of relevant qualifications in governance, business administration, or related fields.
- Holder of a valid New Zealand driver's license.
- Experience with governance management software such as Resolve or Diligent is advantageous.
