Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an imaginative and cooperative Curator to develop exhibitions, organize events, and manage collections at The Dowse Art Museum and Petone Settlers Museum. You will work alongside the Senior Curator and the Arts & Culture team to bring dynamic exhibitions and digital storytelling to our audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and implement engaging museum exhibitions and community events
  • Lead digital content creation to enhance collections and exhibition narratives
  • Participate actively in collection development, including managing acquisitions and donations
  • Establish and nurture relationships with artists, lenders, donors, and community collaborators
  • Serve as a representative for Hutt City Arts & Culture through writing, public speaking, and networking

Candidate Profile

  • Holds a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Experienced in curating exhibitions and coordinating events
  • Excellent skills in research, writing, and communication
  • Knowledge relevant to the museums’ focus areas
  • Strong abilities in digital storytelling and relationship building
  • Creative and collaborative mindset with a focus on audience engagement
  • Prior experience in museums, galleries, or cultural institutions is advantageous
