The HYCO DCS Operator, reporting directly to the HYCO Lead/Shift Supervisor, is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the HYCO hydrogen manufacturing unit through a centralized Distributed Control System (DCS). This position focuses on maintaining safe, efficient, and consistent plant performance to meet production goals, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor all sections of the hydrogen production facility including Steam Methane Reforming, CO2 removal and compression, PSA with tail gas compression, membrane units, and supporting utilities per work procedures.
• Manage the pipeline system supplying hydrogen, steam, and CO2 to customer networks ensuring safe and effective delivery.
• Comply rigorously with all safety protocols such as Safe Work Permits, Lock-out Tag-out (LOTO), and change management procedures; act as the primary responder during process emergencies and initiate emergency plans when needed.
• Monitor and maintain Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Fire & Gas systems ensuring compliance and safety interlock integrity.
• Ensure environmental compliance by monitoring plant emissions, managing waste, and adhering to all environmental permit requirements.
• Perform regular operational checks, data logging, and detailed shift handovers while coordinating closely with field operators, engineers, and maintenance teams to guarantee plant stability and effective communication.
• Assist in preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and support plant startups and commissioning tasks in collaboration with engineering and maintenance personnel.
• Lead efforts to identify root causes of process deviations or equipment issues and collaborate on long-term solutions and continuous improvements to operational efficiency, safety, and profitability.
• Maintain strong communication with customers and internal refinery units to align production outputs with demand and ensure service quality at a strategic level.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Process Operations is preferred; Associate Technical Degree with adequate experience will also be considered.
• At least 5 years of experience as a lead DCS operator, specifically in hydrogen production or related plants such as ammonia, methanol, or syngas.
• Proficiency in Distributed Control Systems such as Yokogawa Centum VP or Siemens PCS 7.
• Strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, thermodynamics, and process control systems.
• Proven ability to maintain composure and sound judgment during high-pressure situations.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic capabilities.
• Fluent in English with clear verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers, operations, and maintenance teams.
