Your Role as Cyber Security Engineer

In this position, you will play a crucial role in supporting the daily cyber security operations safeguarding One NZ from digital threats. Your responsibilities include implementing and managing security controls across vital platforms and digital assets, maintaining sound security practices, lifecycle management, and continually assessing system security status. Collaborating closely with the broader cyber security team, you will ensure security protocols, tools, and services’ effectiveness and continuous enhancement throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain robust security measures supporting a secure and resilient cyber environment.
  • Oversee and monitor security event logs for critical assets to identify threats.
  • Develop and optimize security use cases by correlating event logs alongside the Cyber Defence Centre team.
  • Assist with vulnerability management across both on-premise and cloud infrastructures, ensuring comprehensive tooling coverage.
  • Monitor vulnerability scans to detect and aid in remediating potential risks on key systems.
  • Manage the overall health and performance of cyber security services, adhering to operational and security standards.
  • Stay informed about emerging threats, trends, and advances in cyber security to continually enhance capabilities.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting One NZ's 24/7 operational environment as needed.
  • Support secure configuration and optimal tuning of security services in line with company policies and SLAs.
  • Work with internal teams to report and escalate critical and high-risk vulnerabilities appropriately.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in cyber security operations or security engineering roles.
  • Strong understanding of cyber security protocols, technologies, systems, and security tooling.
  • Practical experience with vulnerability management, email security, and SIEM platforms.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Palo Alto Prisma Cloud, Google SecOps SIEM, Qualys, UpGuard, Microsoft Defender XDR, and Mandiant ASM.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities to effectively identify and mitigate security risks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills enabling collaboration with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Industry certifications like CISSP, CISM, or CEH are highly desirable.
  • Experience operating within large, complex organisations in cyber security functions.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and standards related to information security.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, handle competing priorities, and maintain meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational aptitude and proactive mindset towards continuous improvement and operational excellence.
