About the Role
The Court Coordinator acts as a representative of the Director-General in youth justice court proceedings, offering expert advice and consultancy to departmental staff. This role is pivotal in ensuring exceptional service delivery to courts and clients, upholding the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Showcase cultural competence and/or dedication to developing it, fostering an inclusive environment that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019, supporting programs and partnerships that maintain cultural ties for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Conduct thorough pre-court preparations by following established procedures and quality benchmarks, including leading or assisting in pre-court interviews.
- Evaluate risk factors, recognize opportunities for early intervention, make suitable referrals, and analyze documentation to confidently prepare court submissions.
- Engage with various stakeholders such as Magistrates, Judges, lawyers, police, Community Justice Groups, and community organizations to deliver high-quality court services and promote positive outcomes for young people and their families or carers.
- Offer post-court guidance to young people, their families/carers, stakeholders, and youth justice personnel while accurately completing all necessary documentation and case notes.
- Manage office systems related to court matters, and contribute to developing new systems to efficiently handle court appearances, promptly record results, and track trends or issues.
- Serve as part of the youth justice service centre management team, contributing to strategic and operational planning, evaluations, and informed decision-making.
- Provide consultancy to departmental staff and other stakeholders on youth justice court matters, including mentoring staff, supporting local training programs, and ensuring quality assurance of court materials.
- Perform professional casework and restorative justice activities as needed.
- Engage actively in ongoing professional development, including training, supervision, and relevant accreditation processes, to enhance contributions toward organizational objectives.
