The Core Engineering team stewards the heart of the open-source project, and this role is part of the Performance Engineering group dedicated to optimizing distributed system performance.

Role Responsibilities

• Analyze and enhance the performance of the core ClickHouse database, including query optimization, distributed query strategies, relational operators such as aggregation and joins, caching, and low-level enhancements like SIMD instructions.
• Maintain and expand performance tests that use real-world and synthetic datasets to ensure ongoing database performance standards.
• Collaborate with the Support Engineering team to diagnose and resolve complex performance issues faced by customers.
• Coordinate with other core teams to evaluate the impact of new features on performance and provide consultation and testing support.
• Engage actively with the open-source community through issue resolution, pull request reviews, and community support across various communication channels.

Candidate Profile

• Professional experience in C++ software development with familiarity in Unix systems.
• Strong understanding of database internals and architectural design.
• Background in performance engineering, preferably in databases, or in areas like high-frequency trading, simulations, or real-time data processing.
• Excellent communication skills enabling teamwork across different engineering groups.
• Commitment to collaborative open-source culture, including detailed and patient code reviews.
• Robust production debugging capabilities and adept problem-solving skills.
• Passion for efficiency, availability, scalability, and principles of data governance.
• Thrives in fast-paced startup atmospheres, demonstrating ownership, responsibility, and accountability.

Bonus Qualifications

• Prior experience with ClickHouse.
• Expertise in security, privacy, and compliance.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP and network programming.
• Cloud infrastructure development experience, ideally involving Kubernetes.
• Experience delivering technical presentations at conferences or meetups.
• Contributions to open-source projects.

Compensation and Benefits
